MORGAN, RICHARD
- Abstract
The article presents an exploration into the 1940s U.S. Supreme Court cases of Minersville School District v. Gobitis, West Virginia v. Barnette, and others discussing questions regarding saluting the national flag. Several cases are addressed and their impact on U.S. Constitutional law are each described. Various philosophies are presented concerning the freedom of religious expression, the beginning of the civil rights focus in U.S. cases, and its influence on the status of contemporary U.S. law.
