- Abstract
Tuta absoluta is a major pest in tomato crop. This phytophagous in the larval stage mine and bore the leaves and the bud causing decreased crop yield. Currently, the parasitoid Apanteles gelechiidivoris was established as a method with great potential for biological control of T. absoluta greenhouse crops. Currently, A. gelechiidivoris is reared using larvae of T. absoluta in tomato plants, however this method is being wasteful. For this reason, the objective of this study was to evaluate modifications of the artificial diet proposed by Misfeldht and Parra (1999). The research was conducted under laboratory conditions (18.8°C ± 0.49 and 74.8 ± 3.96% relative humidity) with a completely randomized design, evaluating modifications proposed by Misfeldht and Parra (1999) with different amounts of agar and tomato powder. The percentage of eggs hatched and larvae survival rate of T. absoluta were recorded. With a quantity of 18 g of agar, the highest percentage of egg hatching (61.7% ± 7.5) was obtained. Finally, the highest percentage of hatched eggs was 72.8% ± 10.7 with an amount of 7.5 g of powdered tomato. We conclude that none of the modifications made to the artificial diet proposed by Misfeldht and Parra (1999) can be used as a substrate for the development of T. absoluta
