- Abstract
The generation of municipal waste in conditions of the Czech Republic has been pursued within the Waste Management Information System (ISOH) of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic. Moreover, the database of the Czech Statistical Office and the database of EKO-KOM Inc. serve as the source of comprehensive information. The data on municipal waste generation that are given by the operators of these databases are often characterised by differing values. The reason is mainly in variation of the definition of the term of municipal waste with respect to the set of reporting units. When processing conceptual documents the authors were mostly keeping to the data that are gathered in the framework of ISOH, and originated from the evidence of municipal waste generators and persons authorised to handle with these wastes. It is very difficult to check data registered in such way. The authors present in this issue a verified methodology for appointing standards for generation of municipal wastes and application thereof in order to find the total production and allocation of wastes in a particular territory. It is concerned with results of the research project of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic MŽP SP/II/2f1/2/07 „Identification of the potential of prevention of commercial waste in the Czech Republic and its application in practice‟. The application of the methods in a territory is based on the set of standards, passportization of businesses and registry of inhabitants. This is a basic source of information needed to fill computational programme specifically created for this purpose. According to the information available the selected method is utterly unique in European scope. The self-government uses these obtained data for co-ordination of activities in the waste management on their territory.
