- Abstract
Palo monte is one of the religions that forms part of the Afro-Cuban religious diaspora. As one of the religious systems established in Colombia, it has acquired great relevance in Cali. On the basis of ethnographic analysis, the article discusses the insertion of palo monte in this city, exploring the construction of national identity and the ways in which gender relations permeate and modify the ritual and daily life spheres. Additionally, the article describes some for the characteristics that palo monte acquires in the Cali context, which is marked by drug-trafficking related violence.
