Aerobic fitness and hemodynamic adjustments of wheelchair basketball players with and without spinal cord injury during a field test: a cross sectional study.

- Abstract
Sujeitos com lesão medular traumática (LMT) apresentam alterações nos ajustes hemodinâmicos durante exercícios físicos. Estas alterações, associadas a menor ativação da musculatura do tronco, decorrente do nível da lesão, geram um pior desempenho físico, pois há redução na movimentação angular do tronco durante a propulsão da cadeira de rodas e menor consumo de oxigênio no pico do exercício físico (VO2pico). Assim, este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar e comparar os ajustes hemodinâmicos e o desempenho físico aeróbio de atletas cadeirantes com e sem LMT. Para tal, foram avaliados 16 jogadores de basquete em cadeira de rodas, do gênero masculino, os quais foram divididos em dois grupos com 8 participantes. Os sujeitos alocados no grupo com lesão medular traumática (GCLMT) apresentaram lesões parciais ou completas entre os níveis de T4 e L5, tendo idade de 34,50 ± 8,57 anos. Já os sujeitos do grupo sem lesão medular traumática (GSLMT) apresentaram idade de 27,63 ± 7,71 anos. Para a avaliação do desempenho físico aeróbio, foi realizado o teste de 12 minutos para cadeirantes, sendo avaliadas a frequência cardíaca (FC) e pressão arterial (PA), bem como a distância percorrida, velocidade média e o VO2pico estimado. Ambos os grupos apresentaram semelhança nos ajustes hemodinâmicos durante o teste de esforço, entretanto, o grupo SLMT apresentou maior distância percorrida (2575,01 ± 123,92 m, P < 0,001), velocidade média (12,88 ± 0,62 km/h, P = 0,002) e VO2pico (36,50 ± 2,28 ml/kg/min, P = 0,001) quando comparado ao grupo CLMT. Concluise que, na população estudada, a presença de LMT não exerceu influência sobre os ajustes hemodinâmicos durante o teste de esforço, contudo, os sujeitos sem LMT apresentaram melhor desempenho físico aeróbio.
