- Title
Retroviruses and the Third Synapse.
- Authors
Sattentau, Quentin J.
- Abstract
The article presents a study on the discovery of retroviruses. It mentions that cell-to-cell spread of viruses, particularly retroviruses investigation, has seen a renaissance in past five years with the discovery of a multi-molecular structure that termed the virological or infectious synapse. It notes that the virological synapse becomes a third synapse from the neural and immunological synapses and it transfers pathogenic information among cells. Moreover, some virus families such as rhabdo, herpes, pox, paramyxo, Flavi and African Swine Fever can travel through directed cell-to-cell spread via diverse mechanisms.
