The article discusses several studies presented at a special session of the 2014 Association for Consumer Research (ACR) Conference, titled "Just Like Being There: The Good and the Bad of Sharing Experiences." Topics covered include how experiential purchases foster social connection, how experiential gifts foster stronger relationships than material gifts, and how taking photographs to share with others affects experiences and memories. The impact of sharing materials and experiential purchases on self-esteem is also mentioned.
