- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Twaddle hydrometer that older textile chemists and dyers used to check the strength of an acid, alkali, and other chemicals. It is implied that Twaddle was a Scottish instrument maker who built a shop in Glasgow in late 1700s. Charles Macintosh, a chemical manufacturer made up the name Twadell hydrometer. The article tackles the story of Twaddle hydrometer beginning with the growth of cotton textile industry in Scotland which initiated the invention and popularity of the hydrometer.
