- Abstract
This article discusses a case report of a 71-year-old man who experienced stroke-like symptoms after rapidly withdrawing from gabapentin, a medication used for chronic low back pain. The patient had been taking gabapentin along with a spinal cord stimulator. The report highlights several limitations, including the lack of cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess brain lesions, the absence of contrast medium in the cerebral computed tomography (CT) scan, the failure to rule out seizures as a cause of the symptoms, and the lack of neuropsychological testing or psychiatric referral to evaluate depression. The authors emphasize the need to rule out alternative causes before attributing stroke-like episodes to gabapentin withdrawal.
