- Title
1873, Waverly Fairgrounds, and the Resolutes of Elizabeth.
- Authors

- Abstract
The Elizabeth Resolutes gave New Jersey a major league presence in the 19th century, but their record was hardly stellar. Poor performance and poorer marketing resulted in a 2-21 record and empty stands. Still, the Resolutes' sole season as a major league team was significant for its connection to the lauded Irvingtons and as a source of local pride to a community transitioning into an industrial era. A particular focus of the article is on the Waverly Grounds, a multipurpose field created by one of America's agricultural pioneers--James J. Mapes.
