- Abstract
The internet is quickly becoming the preferred channel of communication by millions of people all over the world and in business; it is the most effective and efficient way of reaching customers. There are limited studies in Namibia which examine factors which influence internet user satisfaction. Thus, this study investigated how internet users’ age, income, education level, internet price, geographical area and internet connection speed influence user satisfaction in three suburbs in Windhoek. The study employed a survey research methodology, with a systematic random sample of 248 out of a population of 1 914 internet users. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software’s linear regression, chi-Square test and descriptive statistical tools were employed in the study. The ArcGIS map overlay technique was used to produce maps depicting the usage distribution patterns of internet services. The study’s results revealed that middle to high income areas are characterised by a negative correlation between age and internet user satisfaction. The findings also indicated a positive association between income and internet user satisfaction in both low and middle to high income areas. A positive association between education, internet connection speed, internet price and internet user satisfaction was established. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) improve, particularly the mobile 3G internet service, provisioning in low income areas. In partnership with academic institutions, ISPs need to introduce internet literacy short courses targeting customers with low education level.
