This study deals with the hypothesis that the borderline between the lexical and grammatical domains is not clear. The irregular treatment of the categories of number and gender we found in vocabularies and grammars of Tupinambá and Guarani, written by Jesuit Priests in the 16th and 17th centuries, seems to confirm this hypothesis.
