- Abstract
Th article discusses the Frito Bandito, a mascot for Frito-Lay Corn Chips in the late 1960s. The character was created by the advertising firm of Foote, Cone and Belding, animated by Tex Avery, and voiced by Mel Blanc. The author explains that the character promoted racist stereotypes of Mexican Americans. A campaign started by the National Mexican-American Anti-Defamation Committee to end this kind of portrayal is talked about. The author states that Frito-Lay stopped the advertisements featuring the Frito Bandito in 1971.
