- Abstract
The article discusses the study of philology in the language and terminology of folk medicine and traditional herbal remedies, with a focus on the pathology of syphilis and leprosy as described in a 16th-century document written in Morisco Arabic which discusses popular medicine. Topics include the author's linguistic analysis of the Arabic text discovered at the Spanish National Library in Madrid, Spain; the medical and cultural perspective on the Morisco Arabic manuscript; and philological observations regarding the medical content and the terminology of disease symptoms mentioned in the document.
