- Abstract
The article offers information on the historical background of the dictatorship in Uruguay between the period of 1973-1985. It informs about the Uruguay's Expiry Law No. 15.848 that was passed by the Uruguay legislation to grant amnesty to military and police officers for human rights violations committed during the dictatorship. It informs that the Expiry Law was held to be unconstitutional by the Uruguayan Supreme Court and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR).
