The article offers information on life and career of painter Philip Mercier, and in the light of new evidence, up until his move to York, England in 1739. Topics discussed include role of Queen Caroline to promote her family and held the power on the domestic front; Mercier work as a revolutionary artistic with his portrait for Colonel James Tyrell; and combination of ardstic skill, a Berlin French cultural inheritance and personal charm in Mercier's work.
