- Title
Van Dyck's project for a family portrait of Lord Arundel.
- Authors
Rambach, Hadrien J.
- Abstract
An essay is presented which discusses the creation and origins of two contemporary copies of portraits depicting English courtier Lord Arundel and his family by the painter Anthony Van Dyck dating to circa 1613 and circa 1635. Particular attention is given to the later commissioned painting, which Van Dyck never completed but a copy of his compositional drawing was identified in 1970. Noted family members depicted in the portrait include Elizabeth Stuart, Alathea Talbot, and Thomas Howard, Lord Maltravers.
