- Title
Carpaccio at the Courtauld.
- Authors
Fletcher, Jennifer
- Abstract
The article examines the 15th-century double-sided drawing by renaissance Venetian artist Vittore Carpaccio, which is devoted to the Madonna with her Child. The drawing is included in the collection of art works in the Courtauld Gallery at the Somerset House in London, England. The author characterizes the drawing with its swift execution and abbreviated forms. She opines that Carpaccio's habit of economically recycling motifs in drawings and paintings over considerable periods of time means that his drawings provided a starting point for figures in later works.
