- Abstract
Vascular access through the distal radial artery, an innovative method for accessing the coronary arteries, is gaining popularity due to its substantial benefits, including a reduction in vascular complications and enhanced comfort for both the patient and the operator. The distal radial puncture technique was introduced in 1982 for anesthesia and adopted in interventional cardiology in the late 1990s. Researchers have published promising results, supporting the efficacy and safety of this method. This technique offers several advantages, the most interesting being the preservation of the proximal radial artery, the comfort of the patient and the operator, and a reduced hemostasis time favoring the ambulatory aspect of the procedures. However, a learning curve is required, but it is comparable to the one observed during the first use of the proximal radial artery.
