- Title
How do cardiac and noncardiac conditions affect survival after ICD implantation?
- Authors
Ghosh, Nina; Tu, Jack V.; Lee, Douglas S.
- Abstract
The article presents a study, which identifies several factors that influence survival among implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) recipients. Researchers found that increasing age showed an increased risk of death after ICD placement, with a speedy risk increase after the age of 70, in contrast to the Canadian Implantable Defibrillator Study (CIDS) analysis. An explanation to the opposing results entails that older patients have greater burden of comorbid conditions.
