The Promise and Practice of Genetics on Diabetes Care: The Fog Rises to Reveal a Field of Genetic Complexity in .
- Authors
Rich, Stephen S.
- Abstract
The article discusses research published within the issue by D. Dubois-Laforgue and team on the role of genetic factors such as the hepatocyte nuclear factor 1B (HNF1B) gene on the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes. Focus is given to genetic alterations of transcription factors in maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), particularly mutations in HNF1B. Other topics include monogenic forms of diseases and a comparison of MODY prognosis in patients with HNF1B mutations or deletions.
