- Abstract
The article discusses the fiddling style in Nova Scotia called Down East Style. It cites the fiddle groups of George Wade and the Cornhuskers and Jim Magill who influenced the Down East Style although it was Don Messer who largely influenced the present style. Sources of Down East Fiddling include records of Don Messer, Ned Landry and Clell Joudrey and some popular tunes include Big John McNeil, High Level Hornpipe and Saint Anne's Reel. It indicates an improvement in the quality of fiddling as young players are given lessons and learning to read music.
