- Authors
MAHONEY, KATHLEEN
- Abstract
The author presents several arguments regarding Canada's origin story including that the indigenous peoples need to be recognized as equal partners in the founding of Canada and that conditions leading to a reconciliation with the first peoples of Canada should be created. She mentions the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Confederation and addresses five themes including the importance of origin stories, the justification of Canada's origin story, and the implications of correcting the story. Topics include multiculturalism, the contributions and influence of the indigenous peoples, the Indian Act, and the Fathers of Confederation.
