- Title
"Through a glass, darkly": the clinical and ethical implications of Munchausen syndrome.
- Authors
Robertson, Michael D.; Kerridge, Ian H.
- Abstract
The article addresses the ethical concerns involved in the management of a patient suffering from Munchausen syndrome, a type of psychiatric disorder wherein those affected feign disease, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy. In order to appropriately manage such patients, it is suggested that regular, structured therapeutic communication with a skilled mental health clinician be required. The issue for violating the privacy of mental health patients in this aspect is at stake.
