- Abstract
As one of the earliest performers of monodrama on Broadway stages, Ruth Draper helped to initiate acceptance of this solo genre as legitimate theatre for future artists and producers. This historical and ethnographic analysis of Draper's life and critical reviews of her work illustrate both the process and challenges of an American woman solo writer and actress during the early to mid 1900s and her unique contribution to this critical canon of Broadway solo performance.
