- Abstract
As we face some difficulties while doing psychiatric research studies, it can be speculated that conducting medical research studies in Turkey in general is disabled. Lack of distinction between research physicians and clinicians appears as the main reason for this issue. In other words, nobody can imagine that a physician shall be paid just for doing scientific research studies for medical purposes. Then, questions arise for the motivation behind scientific medical studies that have been done in Turkey. Most people think academic achievement as the main or only reason for conducting research studies and publishing articles. Such an explanation is not fair, but there is an urgency towards importing a functional system that facilitates both establishing and running research clinics within university hospitals and government settings. Rules and regulations for writing grant proposals and both for receiving and spending grant monies is also necessary. The author has reviewed current situation, looked for possible explanations, and has proposed basic solutions on this topic.
