Fungal genetics: Determining the sequence of history.
- Authors
Bangham, Jenny
- Abstract
The article focuses on sex determination in the sequence of evolutionary history of the mating-type (MAT) locus of human fungal pathogen. The researchers expose some parallels between the Cryptococcus neoformans MAT locus and the human Y chromosome. The researchers found out that this pathogen could be classified as ancient, intermediate or recent in accordance to their MAT locus. They added that the human Y chromosome also has four temporal clusters representing gene acquisition.
