Abstract
The article discusses the development of the first placenta-on-a-chip by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania. Topics include the flash drive size of the device to model the transport of nutrients between mother and fetus to aid in preterm birth studies, the grant from March of Dimes to support research on placental dysfunction as well as the use of vitro placental cell lines. Also mentioned are ex vivo placental cells, microfluidic channels and trophoblast cells.
