- Abstract
The article discusses the history of Mexican American men's baseball and women's softball players and teams in the Indiana Harbor district of East Chicago, Indiana, between 1925 and 1942. It examines the significance of baseball in developing a dual Mexican and American identity among Mexicans Americans, describes the Indiana Harbor community's economic and social conditions, particularly the significance of the steel industry there, and the baseball team known as Los Gallos and the softball team known as Las Gallinas.
