- Title
Who Were the Drei Knaben?
- Authors
MUELLER, ADELINE
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Three Boys that are part of the characters of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "Die Zauberflöte." The few existing illustrations of the Three Boys from early performances reportedly indicate that there was some discord over the intended gender and age of the characters. Nonetheless, the Three Boys are said to be a central presence in "Die Zauberflöte" libretto and score. They enjoy more stage and singing time, more intricate music, and more narrative importance than any other child characters in the professional Viennese theater to that date.
