- Title
Neurodegenerative disease: Inhibiting β-secretase where it matters.
- Authors
Hoyos Flight, Monica
- Abstract
The article focuses on the study which shows that a membrane-anchored version of a beta-secretase inhibitor reduces the beta-amyloid's activity more effectively than a free inhibitor. Beta-amyloid is a central peptide in the development of Alzheimer's disease and efforts to enhance treatments focused on decreasing the production of the protein. Researchers revealed that the sterol-linked inhibitor reduced beta-amyloid toxicity and increased survival in a fly model of Alzheimer's disease.
