- Abstract
This article consists of two parts. In the first part, based on the document “From Conflict to the Community", research is being carried out which are the characteristics of the reflection on the past and which elements should be considered particularly. The Lutherans and the Catholics are invited to reflect on their past visions to use this past for ecumenical dialogue. In the second part, the new consideration of two important starting points for the future Lutheran-Catholic dialogue is reported: “Martin Luther did not intend to split the church" and “Martin Luther wanted to renew the church". In the final part, it is stated that reflection on the past and about Martin Luther in a positive and ecumenical spirit can certainly help to reach the ultimate goal of the ecumenical effort more quickly. The visible unity, which also Jesus Christ expects from his successors.
