- Title
KENYA: Fighting Graft.
- Abstract
Corruption in Kenya is increasing despite government promises to combat it. The state-run Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) reported a surge in corruption in government institutions, with the average bribe amount rising by 70% in President Ruto's administration. The Interior Ministry, police service, and county health departments were named as the most corrupt institutions. Activists and the opposition have questioned the government's commitment to fighting corruption, and US firms seeking public tenders in Kenya often face requests for bribes. In addition, there is an ongoing doctors' strike demanding better pay and working conditions, which has disrupted healthcare in the country. A deadly bus crash also occurred, highlighting the poor road conditions and traffic violations in Kenya.
