- Abstract
The article discusses the measurement of the concentrations of natural steroidal estrogens in flushed dairy manure wastewater (FDMW) to assess the potential risk of waterway contamination resulting from land application. It aims to develop a sample preparation method that permits the quantification of four natural steroidal estrogens in FDMW by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Estrogens are a concern because low concentrations in water can adversely affect aquatic vertebrate species by disrupting the normal functions of their endocrine systems.
