- Abstract
The article "Conspiracy Thinking. Theories, Knowledge, Media" examines the common elements of various conspiracy narratives and their embedding in social, cultural, and media contexts. It discusses how such knowledge is produced, made plausible, and conveyed, as well as the role of visual communication elements. Conspiracy theories often have a basis in reality and use symbolic and visual arguments. They often aim at criticizing elites and simplifying complex social relations. The spread of conspiracy theories is also supported by social media and the digital public sphere.
