- Title
No Place Like Home: Kinfolk House as a Site-Specific Work.
- Authors
Fuentes, Jessica
- Abstract
Kinfolk House, located in the Polytechnic Heights neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas, is a site-specific work created by Sedrick and Letitia Huckaby. The house was originally owned by Sedrick's grandmother, Hallie Beatrice Carpenter, and her husband Marcos. After falling into disrepair, the Huckabys purchased the house and transformed it into a creative catalyst and collaborative project space. Inspired by earlier Black artists and community-focused art spaces like McAnthony's Multicultural Studio and Gallery and Project Row Houses, Kinfolk House aims to challenge traditional notions of art and create a welcoming environment for artists and the local community. The house has hosted various exhibitions and continues to evolve with each new artistic iteration.
