- Abstract
Ran Hwang is a Korean artist whose installations explore the concept of dematerialization in contemporary art. Influenced by her experiences in the fashion industry and the September 11 attacks, Hwang uses buttons, thread, and pins as primary materials in her artwork. Her works reflect themes of life's uncertainty, mortality, and the visible and invisible realms, blurring the line between the material and immaterial. Hwang's current exhibition, "Breathwave," features a wall installation that combines bird imagery with vibrant thread, symbolizing the human experience of overcoming obstacles and striving for personal growth. Through her art, Hwang invites viewers to contemplate the tension between materialism and spirituality and gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be human.
