- Title
Danes Living in the UK Effectively Shut Out from Voting in EU Elections.
- Authors
Kvist, Else
- Abstract
Danes living in the UK, along with citizens of other EU member states, are unable to vote in European Parliament elections due to restrictions imposed by their home countries. Denmark, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta, and Ireland do not allow their citizens to vote from outside the EU, while countries like Sweden, Poland, and France permit their citizens to vote from abroad. This exclusion persists despite the fact that many of these individuals exercised their right to freedom of movement before Brexit. Efforts are being made by organizations such as the ECIT Foundation and New Europeans UK to challenge these restrictions and advocate for the voting rights of EU citizens.
