- Title
Helping Taxpayers Who Are Victims of Identity Theft.
- Authors
McKee, Thomas E.; McKee, Linda J. B.
- Abstract
The article discusses strategies used in identify theft, its impact on taxpayers, and ways to avoid it. The authors mention that the identity of taxpayers is being used to make a fraud tax return and claim a refund such as the U.S. Social Security number and the individual taxpayer identification numbers (ITIN). They add that a tax fraud identity thief acquires money from the government to which he is not entitled. They suggest the need to be aware of marker codes to avoid identity theft.
