- Abstract
The article discusses the rescue of survivors of the wreck of the ship Stirling Castle in 1836 by British Army soldiers and convicts stationed at the Moreton Bay penal settlement in modern-day Brisbane, Queensland. It is noted that among the survivors was Eliza Fraser, wife of the ship's captain, James Fraser. Particular focus is given to the work of convict John Graham in rescuing the survivors, who were scattered along the coast north of Brisbane.
