- Abstract
The author highlights the importance of communication for those involved in assessing and ensuring food safety. He cites as an example news of an outbreak of Escherichia coli associated with bean sprouts being grown in Germany, which spreads around the world in only a matter of seconds due to modern telecommunications. He also suggests the challenge for scientists to communicate factual information to the modern media that will be understand by an average consumer.
