- Abstract
The Tübingen dissertation by Sebastian Koch, titled "Identity Crises after the End of the British Empire: Cultural Reorientation in Canada, Australia, and Aotearoa New Zealand," examines the cultural reorientation in the former British settler colonies after the end of the British Empire. The study considers the significance of flags, national anthems, holidays, and the monarchy, as well as national historiography in this context. It also addresses the political and cultural tensions between the "metropolis" and the "colony." However, the study could better explore the theoretical potentials arising from the global nature of the British Empire and examine complex historical concepts such as "identity" beyond Eurocentrism.
