- Abstract
Further work on a new process for durable press cottons, referred to as "Steam Set" for convenience, is presented. In a comparison with several pad-dry-cure controls of equivalent wrinkle recovery, Steam Set fabrics displayed a better retention of tearing, breaking and bursting strengths and Stoll flex abrasion resistance. In low temperature steaming experiments (temperatures below 110C), wash-off of resins was avoided by predrying. Cured fabrics possessed properties equivalent to those of fabrics steamed with higher temperature steam. Low temperature curing of steamed fabrics was shown to produce fabrics with improved textile properties, when compared to fabrics cured at higher temperatures.
