- Abstract
An essay is presented on surgery and surgical suture. It offers a history of surgery and describes the main advances in the surgical suture from Neolithic man until the present day. It discusses the several contributions of several physicians from ancient times until the recent times including Indian surgery on fistulae repair, tonsillectomy, Caesarian section and amputation, the use of catgut of Roman surgeons which is still adopted now, and Joseph Lister's innovations in the field of antisepsis.
