- Abstract
The objective of the proposed article is to present the general features of the sociographic characterization of prosthetics and orthotics professionals graduated at Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa (ESTeSL) [Lisbon School of Health Technology], considering four dimensions: 1) social and professional profile; 2) work conditions; 3) degree of autonomy; 4) main professional problems and projects. The sociographic characterization exposed in this article resulted from a quantitative study, in which the research method applied was the questionnaire, through a specific platform, to the total population under study, i.e., 221 prosthetics and orthotics professionals graduated at ESTeSL, until 2016. The percentage of answers obtained was 61.4% (n=132), which gives a significant dimension to the data presented. This first sociographic characterization of prosthetics and orthotics professionals allows to know rigorously the characteristics of the professional group and simultaneously to be a basis for the development of future research work. We presented the main features of the social and professional profile of the population studied (predominantly female, young, mainly in the area of orthotics, in orthotics and public sales, in the region of Lisbon and Setúbal (a considerable part of them work in another country), the way of evaluation of work conditions, the degree of autonomy, the main problems faced by the professional group and the main professional projects.
