- Title
Testament of the Father: Kieslowski's The Decalogue.
- Authors
Perimutter, Ruth
- Abstract
The article focuses on the film by Krzysztof Kieslowski titled "The Decalogue," which marks a significant midpoint of his career. In the film, Kielslowski heightens metaphors and forms that refer to basic issues such as the attempt of saving children and family from perils that range from small rivalries and human pride to deep moral corruption. The movie is basing on the ultimate patriarchal prohibitions which are the ten thou shall nots of the Old Testament. The ten one-hour films of Kieslowski were plainly intended as apolitical melodramas. Its sections unfold in a minimum Warsaw housing project where neighbors dwell in an ambience of anonymity and occasional aggression.
