EDITOR'S NOTE — ADVANCING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG THE POOR STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING POVERTY.
- Authors
MORRIS, MICHAEL H.; SANTOS, SUSANA C.
- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of understanding poverty when studying entrepreneurship among the poor. It argues that simply providing financial resources to impoverished entrepreneurs does not necessarily improve their business performance. Poverty is a multidimensional construct that goes beyond a lack of income and includes factors such as education, housing, health, and social exclusion. The article emphasizes that ventures started by the poor contribute significantly to GDP, create jobs, and serve as a lifeline for many individuals. It calls for a more nuanced understanding of poverty and its effects on entrepreneurial behaviors in order to develop sustainable ventures and design effective public policies.
