Abstract
The article presents an overview of the economic condition in Canada. In the spring of 2006, there was an increasing split between growth in services and a slowdown in goods, which reflects the long-term effect of the rise in the exchange rate. Consumer spending showed no sign of abating, retails sales volume expanded another 1.1 percent in April. The international investment position improved substantially during the first quarter, with net foreign debt falling 8 percent.
