- Abstract
The article presents an overview on the research in ecological chemistry performed in the new independent states (NIS) of the former Soviet Union. Research areas include the ecological chemistry of water, air, soil, waste management, cleaner production and chemical risk management. The general relation of ecological chemistry to other scientific areas are shown. The main environmental problems and anthropogenic impacts, among those which are specific for NIS countries, are presented. The theoretical and practical significance of the results obtained from various research teams of the NIS countries are discussed.
