- Abstract
After classifying the synoptic corpus of parables from the perspective of wisdom literature and offering some general observations, the article analyzes five of Jesus' parables that are directly concerned with wisdom/foolishness by the explicit mention of this theme as well as the recurrence of wisdom terminology: the ten virgins (Mt 25,1-13), the two houses (Mt 7,24-27; cf. Lk 6,47-49), the faithful (wise) or unfaithful (foolish) servant (Mt 24,45-51 ǁ Lk 12,42-46), the rich fool (Lk 12,16-21) and the shrewd steward (Lk 16,1-8). The detailed investigation of these accounts in the light of Old Testament traditions reveals new and interesting contacts with biblical wisdom as well as some hints of an implicit Christology. Thus, the figure of Jesus, author of these parables, emerges as a "traditional" biblical sage. Yet, at the same time, he is atypical, since as the personification of Wisdom, he teaches authoritatively the ways to fullness of life with God.
